I was elected in November 2022 and began serving on the school board in January 2023. Soon after being sworn in, I requested that the credit card statements be posted publicly along with the Accounts Payable report. Prior to this, credit card statements were not posted.
Prior to February 2022, the board packet was kept confidential and not released, even when requested. The Indiana Public Access Counselor ruled in Mumford v. West Lafayette Community School Corp that our school corporation violated Indiana law in denying public access to the school board packet. In response, the board changed their policy and began publicly posting the entire board packet.
Prior to February 2022, the Accounts Payable reports were not publicly released by the school board, but were not considered confidential. I was able to obtain each month’s report through public records requests.
Portions of the Personnel Report have always been publicly available. Prior to February 2022, the Personnel Report (excluding administration recommendations) from the previous meeting was released at the bottom of the meeting minutes document one month later.
